Interested in guiding the Kern?
Learning to guide the Kern River is a challenging and extremely rewarding experience. Here at SoCal, we focus on a class II-III section of the Kern. If you become a river guide with us, you can expect your summer to be filled with constant trips and endless fun. Our guide school is provided for free, with no experience necessary. You will be required to take CPR and First Aid if you are not already certified.
Serve as a whitewater rafting guide on rafting, inflatable kayak (I.K.). and paddle tubing trips. Guides will run river trips on the Upper Kern River from the KR3 put in to town. Guides’ primary responsibility is to deal directly with our guests and seek to provide the best possible vacation experience. Guides are part of the SoCal Rafting company that emphasizes quality service, teamwork and most of all, FUN.
Guide Duties and Responsibilities:
Run river trips on the Upper Kern River. Guide our raft, I.K., and paddle tubing trips.
Maintain a good sense of humor and cooperative attitude when dealing with both co-workers and guests.
Communicate well with Trip Leaders, Managers, and SoCal Rafting outfitter store staff.
Maintain knowledge of the area’s history, river flows and titles, environment, and share the knowledge with guests.
Responsible for cleanliness of equipment and facilities.
Employees are evaluated on thoroughness in performing duties, pleasant attitude, dependability, punctuality, personal initiative, flexibility, mature judgment, willingness to learn, and ability to be a team player.
Must be at least 15 ½ years old. Must have a professional attitude, and be willing to learn and accept new and evolving ideas. Must have a willingness to work varying hours. Must work well under pressure, have a positive attitude, and be a team player.
